Venezuela is Latin American champion of*beautiful*women

Brazil may have five World Cups, and Argentina, 22 Copa Libertadores de América, but when it comes to beautiful women, no country in Latin America is a match for Venezuela. The country has already won six Miss Universe titles, and is only behind the United States, which has eight. As if that weren’t enough, in 2009 Chávez’s homeland entered the Guinness Book of Records by becoming the first country to win the title for two consecutive years (2008 and 2009).

The trajectory that took Venezuelan women to the top of the world beauty ranking began in 1952, when Panamerican Airways (Pan Am) created the Miss Venezuela contest to choose the country’s representative in the then newly created Miss Universe, a beauty contest held in the United States. United to choose the most beautiful woman in the world. Over the years, the competition became a public phenomenon in Venezuela and, from the 1970s onwards, it began to be broadcast nationally by the Venevisión channel and became the most watched television program in the country.

It didn’t take long for Venezuela to claim a Miss Universe: in 1979, Maritza Sayalero became the first representative of the country to win the crown. From then on, the feat was repeated by Irene Sáez in 1981, Bárbara Palacios in 1986, Alicia Machado in 1996 and by the double Dayana Mendoza in 2008 and Stefania Fernandez in 2009.All these achievements have made Miss Venezuela, held every year between September and October in Caracas, to be broadcast by Venevisión throughout Latin America and even to the United States. On October 10, the 2013 edition was held, which crowned Migbelis Castellanos as the new Miss Venezuela.
